NBCUniversal May Drop WWE Smackdown Live From Its TV Schedule

WWE 'Smackdown' Up for Grabs as NBCUniversal Moves to Pin Down 'Raw'

WWE 'Smackdown' Up for Grabs as NBCUniversal Moves to Pin Down 'Raw'

It looks like SmackDown Live could be leaving USA Network sooner than later because of the fact Raw is such a large property.

The main thing WWE needs to agree on is that Smackdown Live needs to air preferably on Tuesday nights in order for the show to stay being "live". "From our end, [we don't think] it's an issue to split it", said Barrios. We think we're pretty good at promoting and moving our viewers from one platform to another.

Barrios stated that the WWE would feel more "comfortable" having their programming with different companies today because of the direct connection that they have with the WWE Universe.

Hollywood Reporter Editorial Director Matthew Belloni posted information Wednesday indicating that Smackdown Live could be done on the USA Network, while Raw is sticking around at triple the price they're now making.

This is mainly because NBCUniversal wants to only keep Raw which will be three times more expensive than the current deal. If it's true that WWE can get an increase from NBC for Raw and add a new deal to SmackDown from a new network on top of that, it could make Vince McMahon a much richer man. After five years away from USA, Raw moved back on October 3, 2005, and has aired there ever since.

SmackDown has never had a permanent TV home nor a permanent airing date, though it has always been a two-hour show.

Monday Night Raw has only aired on two networks in its 25-year history. It debuted on UPN on April 29, 1999, and remained there until it moved to The CW in September 2006.

SmackDown Live has aired on USA Network since July 2016, and it has been under the NBCUniversal umbrella dating back to 2010, when it was on Syfy.
