The news was revealed via a landing website which features the game's name and current release window.

I didn't think we'd ever see a numbered sequel to 2007's S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, a game that will probably still be getting new mods long after we're all gone, but these are unusual times.

Moreover, no platforms have been announced yet either, which means that we'll have to wait and see if S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 will be playable on PC, PS4, Xbox One or if it will release exclusively for PC.

It appears that a full sequel in the STALKER franchise is in the works as confirmed by series developer GSC Game World. For our thoughts on the last entry in the series, read IGN's review. The headquarters of GSC Game World in Kiev. Thankfully, it seems that the studio has gotten back on its feet and they're keen to take another shot at developing the game once again.

Finally, it looks like this game will be seeing the light of day after a long nuclear winter. As for what the odd acronym means, it was apparently revealed to be "Scavengers, Trespassers, Adventurers, Loners, Killers, Explorers, and Robbers" back in 2012 when the first attempt at making S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 was underway.
