Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued in SWVA

The temperatures are expected to be in the low 90s on Saturday, which could challenge the record high of 93 degrees set back in 1914.

The rain could continue Sunday morning, Mother's Day, and again in the evening.

As advertised, we've seen some drastic differences in temperatures across the region today due to a warm front slowly advancing east-northeastward from our south and west. "Within these storms, expect some heavy downpours, strong winds and even some hail".

The warning remains in effect until 4:45 p.m. Half inch hail and winds in excess of 40 miles per hour will be possible with this storm. New rainfall amounts of less than a tenth of an inch are expected, except higher amounts possible in thunderstorms.

On Saturday afternoon, the weather service said isolated to scattered thunderstorms were possible for Saturday night, primarily after 10. While the t-storm threat will come to an end, lingering low-level moisture will remain keeping plenty of clouds around with occasional showers and areas of drizzle. But Sunday night's forecast calls for a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a low of about 54.

For Monday, there's a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, with a high near 73. With the clouds and occasional rain will also come an easterly onshore fetch of wind. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 78.
