Vice President Mike Pence tweeted just as Holt's plane landed that while he was "very glad" Holt was back home, sanctions against the country would "continue until democracy returns to Venezuela".

Nine months into his incarceration, NPR reported the U.S. Embassy in Venezuela had "raised concerns" about Holt's well-being and his treatment by Venezuelan authorities.

"Those two years, they were a very, very, very hard two years", said an emotional Holt, sitting next to Trump in the Oval Office. Very proud. And we have others coming. "We're doing all the right things". Hatch brought Holt's parents to the airport to reunite them Saturday evening. And there were few signs it might be willing to let him or his Venezuelan wife, Thamara Caleño, go. "Hatch and Mia so much", she said. He thanked those in the room for supporting his wife through a "very, very, very hard two years".

For nearly two years, Joshua Holt was a detainee of the Venezuelan government - stuck in one of the country's most notorious prisons, fighting for his life and awaiting a trial that never materialized. The official isn't authorized to speak about the matter by name. Trump said Holt's case had proved hard and lawmakers, along with members of the State Department, had been working tirelessly to have him released.

Holt, 24, is a US citizen and was arrested by Venezuelan intelligence services on June 30, 2016, along with his wife, Tamara Belen Caleno.

The release of Holt and his wife, Thamara Caleno, and their departure for Washington came one day after Republican Sen.

"We could nearly write a book about the past 48 hours", Corker said.

Then, on Saturday, the deal was finalized and Corker flew back to Washington with the Holts.

USA officials all along considered the charged bogus.

"Although the extent of the unrest was not known, in another Facebook post, Holt says, 'the prison where I am at has fallen and the guards are here and people are trying to break in my room and kill me".

Senator Orrin Hatch, a Republican from Utah who is retiring, gave all the credit to Trump.

Corker on Friday met personally with President Nicola Maduro.

Venezuelan state television showed Corker and Maduro shaking hands Friday, before holding a closed door meeting at the presidential palace.

It follows a meeting that Democratic Sen.

A week ago the chances of Holt's long ordeal ending any time soon looked slim.

A Utah man has been freed from Venezuelan prison where he was held on charges of stock-piling weapons. Joshua Holt was wearing a bright orange backpack and was surrounded by supporters.

On Saturday, the president tweeted that Joshua Holt was released, and will be landing in the capital later today.

Top officials in the Socialist regime labeled Holt a United States spy.

Joining Trump in the Oval Officer were Corker, Utah Sens. And a number of politicians and diplomats have traveled to Caracas in recent months to try to negotiate his release.

Venezuela's communications minister, Jorge Rodriguez, said their release was a goodwill gesture that followed months of dialogue between the Maduro government and US lawmakers.

Holt was arrested on weapons charged during a trip to Venezuela to marry a woman he'd met on a website to practice Spanish.

"Probably the only time anybody was ever happy that there was a bad instrument on an airplane", said Trump.

Holt's family expresses its gratitude for all who worked for his release. We ask that you allow us to meet with our son and his wife before giving any interviews and statements.
