WhatsApp Gets New Group Features, Including Descriptions, Mentions, and Admin Controls

However, perhaps the most handy feature is the new "group catch up" tool, which will help users keep track of active groups, while they're away.

We are not always on our phones and in the commute home from work for example, you might switch on your data and get bombarded by conversations on WhatsApp.

Group description:A short blurb found under group info that allows you to set the objective, guidelines, or topics for the group. This should solve your daily conundrum with family WhatsApp Groups.

Group description: Now, WhatsApp will give description more prominence so that any new member to the WhatsApp Group understands the goal of the group. While many may not be aware, WhatsApp has rolled out some group specific features as well. The new group chat features are rolling out now worldwide to both iOS and Android users with the latest versions of their respective apps. WhatsApp has taken notice and has introduced a number of new features to help admins and users to keep the group on track. The description pops up at the top whenever someone new joins in.

The first change gives groups a brief description to help clarify the objective and guidelines for the group chat. Though, the new update will also look to ensure individuals who created a group in the first place can't be removed from the group by anyone else.

Admin controls: WhatsApp has been rumoured to be working on admin controls for improving Groups experience for a long time. Some of these functions include changing the group subject, icon and description. Also called "group catch up", the feature lets users find those messages in which they have been mentioned, or those messages that reply to them. There are also people coming together in groups on WhatsApp like new parents looking for support, students organizing study sessions, and even city leaders coordinating relief efforts after natural disasters.

Inside the group info page, members can now search for other group participants. And Administrators can now remove administrator powers belonging to other group members.
