76ers GM denies blasting Embiid, others via Twitter accounts

Joel Embiid bounces ball off guy's face, dunks during pickup game in Philly

A report was published on The Ringer Tuesday night that accused Philadelphia 76ers president Bryan Colangelo of operating a number of fake Twitter accounts in order to criticize National Basketball Association players, debate the decisions of his own coaching staff, and more.

The story by the website cites circumstantial evidence that paints a picture of the National Basketball Association front-office veteran using multiple anonymous Twitter accounts to support his work in Philadelphia while also to take shots at some of his team's players, including Joel Embiid and Markelle Fultz, as well as former Sixers Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel.

"Like many of my colleagues in sports, I have used social media as a means to keep up with the news", Colangelo said in a statement to TheRinger.com.

Colangelo would ultimately deny using other burner accounts mentioned in the story.

Those commonalities listed throughout the report include following various accounts linked to Sixer beat writers, Sixer players, Members of the Front office, Toronto Raptors writers (Colangelo was the GM for the Raptors), and accounts related to his son's high school and college.

Colangelo, 52, was hired by the 76ers in 2016.

Embiid, 24, is coming off an All-Star season that saw him total 22.9 points per game, 11 rebounds per game and 1.8 blocks per game.

In a statement first given to The Ringer on Tuesday, Colangelo explained his use of one of the accounts, while denying his involvement with four others.

Embiid later tweeted: Fun night on Twitter lmao. Colangelo confirmed Tuesday that only one was an account belonging to him.

"Criticize NBA players, including Joel Embiid, Jahlil Okafor, and Nerlens Noel", the report read.

Another one of the burner accounts also said they would like to knock some sense into Embiid. He previously worked as the general manager of the Suns and Raptors.

I really don't know how to describe my emotions or my reaction to this whole thing as this just happened 5 hours ago at this time of writing the piece, but a few things I do have a few thoughts.

According to The Ringer, one of the Twitter accounts it connected to Colangelo bristled at the suggestion that Hinkie deserved credit for the Sixers' turnaround. Colangelo traded Noel to the Dallas Mavericks in February 2017.
