Cavaliers Continue Dialogue With LeBron James' Camp While Respecting His Space

However, a source close to James believed Sexton was as good as any other point guard in the draft.

"Man, LeBron, let's do it!"

Reports say Collin Sexton won the Cavs' management over with his character.

"He gave his heart and soul, diehard energy, commitment to this team and his franchise, to the city, to Northeast Ohio", said Altman. "If you could somehow land a player like him in a trade prior to the draft ... shortly after the draft, I certainly think that would impact LeBron's thinking". As a freshman, the 19-year-old Sexton carried the Crimson Tide to the NCAA Tournament, for a brief time giving the school's rabid football fans a late-winter diversion before coach Nick Saban blew his whistle in spring practice. The confident 6-foot-3, 190-pounder is a proven scorer and he addresses a major need for the Cavs, who traded All-Star point guard Kyrie Irving to Boston past year and spent all season trying to replace him.

His numbers dipped in the postseason to 14.9 points on 39.2 percent shooting (34 percent from 3) and 10.2 rebounds, as Cleveland advanced to the NBA Finals for the fourth consecutive year. After the Golden State Warriors swept them in this year's Finals, the Cavs' main concern shifted to keeping LeBron James committed to the franchise, and not leaving this summer.

Do they go all in on a LeBron James return and deal the selection for an established player, which might also require them to include another asset or two in the trade?

The Cavs could attempt to draft Young tonight if he is available at the eighth spot as a selling pitch to James. James has until midnight on June 29 to exercise the 2018-19 season option in his contract worth $35.6 million or opt out to become a free agent.

Altman said the process is "nothing new for us".

"Knowing that it's a business, I know that's cliché to say, take it in stride".

Young could be gone by the time the Cavs are on the clock, but Sexton would be a nice backup plan. "And what was really encouraging about the workout is he actually shot it a lot better. You're going to feel this kid".

The Cavs evidently felt the loss of Kyrie Irving last August and their point guard play was inconsistent all season long.

In the meantime, Sexton has his fingers crossed that he and James will soon be teammates. Will said player ever actually suit up in the wine and gold? "I just grinded. I started at the bottom and came back up to the top".

"It's something where I'm sure he will spend time with his family and when that times comes to make a decision, he will be in a good frame of mind", Love said.

James has remained off social media since the playoffs began in April, and his self-imposed blackout has continued since the Finals ended. James already owns two homes and a film production company in Southern California.

While both Cleveland-and the rest of the planet that isn't watching FIFA World Cup 2018-awaits where the King will go, his present kingdom selected a possible apprentice known as The Young Bull who may one day inherit his throne.

"It just shows all my hard work paid off", Sexton said. But that's just what I've had to do.
