Vieira led New York City to two consecutive playoff appearances and leaves with the team in second place in the Eastern Conference.

As a player, Vieira also had stints at Juventus, Inter Milan and Manchester City, but is best known for spending almost a decade at Arsenal and being a key part of Wenger's title-winning teams.

After more than 20 years away, former Arsenal and France star Patrick Vieira, is returning to Ligue 1 to take the reins at Nice where he was unveiled as manager on Monday.

He then moved into coaching taking charge of the under-19 and under-21 Manchester City teams before coaching NY, which shares its owner with City.

They would sculpt Barca into an all-conquering powerhouse, winning three La Liga titles, two UEFA Champions League trophies, two UEFA Super Cups, two Spanish Cups, three Spanish Super Cups and two FIFA Club World Cups - 14 trophies in all over four dominating seasons.

The 41-year-old had been linked with replacing Arsene Wenger at the Emirates Stadium following his former manager's departure.

It was an honor to play for you and your staff (Christian Lattanzio, Kristian Wilson & Matthew Cook).

New Nice coach Patrick Vieira insists he does not want to be judged on his glittering playing career after taking over the hotseat at the Ligue 1 club.

"I am fulfilled, happy", said Vieira.

Torrent was born in Girona and played as a midfielder at provincial sides UE Olot and AD Guixols before moving into coaching at Palafrugell CF, Palamos CF and Girona FC.

"Domènec is someone we know really well and have great confidence in as both a person and as a coach. I have watched numerous matches and I enjoy the way the team plays and I now can't wait to begin working with the players on the training pitch". His contract runs until the end of the 2020 season.

The Frenchman earned 107 caps for his nation and was part of the team that won the 1998 World Cup and the European Championship two years later.
