She acknowledged that Canada and the USA have disagreed on significant issues in the past - such as the Vietnam and Iraq wars - and still have differences today when it comes to things like climate change and the steel and aluminum tariffs. Facing pointed criticism from increasingly disillusioned allies, he punched back, uncowed by the growing global outcry.

"We strive to reduce tariff barriers, non-tariff barriers and subsidies", the statement said. He declared, "We have to straighten it out".

"Canadians, we're polite, we're reasonable, but we also will not be pushed around", Trudeau said. But details were scant and clear differences remained at the summit's midpoint.

"We will not stop trying to convince our American friends and President Trump that undermining this order makes no sense at all because it would only play into the hands of those who seek a new post-West order where liberal democracy and fundamental freedoms would cease to exist", said Tusk. He ran against NAFTA and the Trans-Pacific trade deals. Trump has also maintained his stance that tariffs are a national security issue, because unfair trade deals "affect our military", he said.

"These are jointly shared principles, although the pitfalls lie in the details", she said in a press conference, adding that she expected a joint G7 statement on trade would be issued at the end of the summit.

I don't know where to go with this dog bites man metaphor but boy isn't this a insane world we live in!

Once again, Trump emphasized that the days of the USA getting the short end of the stick in its trading relationships with the world were over under his watch.

Foreign Affairs Minister Chrystia Freeland held firm against what she called "illegal and absolutely unjustified" tariffs even though the leaders were playing nice. He said gender equality must "cut through" everything the G-7 does.

According to BBC, Canada, the U.S., the U.K., France, Italy, Japan, and Germany agreed on "free, fair, and mutually beneficial trade", as well as, the importance to fight protectionism. He spent Friday participating in the rituals of the G-7, including the formal greeting by host Trudeau, a group photo in front of the sparkling St. Lawrence River and a working lunch of Arctic char and buckwheat salad.

When Trump left Quebec it was thought that a compromise had been reached, despite the tension and determination of European leaders President Emmanuel Macron of France and Chancellor Angela Merkel of Germany to push back on Trump's assault on the world trade system. "Very dishonest & weak", the president tweeted.

The two leaders also discussed the close security and economic partnership between Canada and the United States. "That just screams hypocrisy to me", Muirhead said.

Trudeau didn't respond to questions about Trump when the prime minister arrived at a Quebec City hotel Sunday for meetings with other world leaders, though Freeland later told reporters that "we don't think that's a useful or productive way to do business".

After the conclusion of the summit, Trump again said he would not allow other countries to impose barriers on the United States.

The French president did have some private time with Trump before the summit officially started. This was a two tweet attack.

Canada wants a deal too, but Trudeau reiterated the government view that the U.S.'s proposed five-year sunset clause is a non-starter.

Trump further annoyed the allies when he called for Russian Federation to be welcomed back into the group.

Navarro, the Trump trade adviser, said his harsh assessment of what "bad faith" Trudeau did with "that stunt press conference" on Saturday "comes right from Air Force One". "It's a lucky number".
