Trump drew on emotional language when a reporter asked how he could essentially defend North Korea's human rights record despite the kidnapping that resulted in the death of Otto Warmbier, a deceased former American hostage Trump and diplomats helped free.

North Korean media was clearly granted behind-the-scenes access that western media organizations were not. They see him shaking hands with Kim Jong Un at their historic summit in Singapore, and even awkwardly saluting a three-star general.

The three-way meeting comes as USA allies and South Korea seek more details about Trump's unprecedented nuclear summit with Kim in Singapore on Tuesday and what's next for US nuclear negotiations with the North.

"People are shocked", the president continued.

After the summit, Trump and Kim issued a joint statement in which the North reaffirmed its commitment to complete denuclearisation of the Korean Peninsula - a promise it has made in the past.

Trump said the Federal Bureau of Investigation looks "very bad".

"He's a tough guy", Trump told Fox News' Bret Baier on Wednesday. Trump said. "I get hit, because I went there, I gave him credibility". By the way, it was good for the United States.

Trump reportedly had to be talked out of changing the summit date by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders for fear the entire meeting would be in jeopardy.

Kim Yong-nam is the head of the Supreme People's Assembly and said Russian Federation welcomes and would be assessing the summit.

Trump ultimately stuck with the original schedule and emerged from the meeting saying he and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed an agreement that stated Kim would be committed to "complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula". "But I think we understand each other".

Japanese and North Korean officials met in Ulaanbaatar on the sidelines of an worldwide conference on Thursday, Foreign Ministry officials said.

Trump bragged about the firing, according to a report in The New York Times. "Now we're getting it memorialised and all but that problem is largely solved".

During his Fox interview, Trump showered praise on Kim and said "it's great to give him credibility".

Since returning from his summit with Kim, Trump has referred to Kim as "funny", "smart", "very talented", and someone who "loves his people".

When asked whether Trump was jumping the gun by declaring victory, White House counselor Kellyanne Conway told reporters: "This president wants North Korea to completely denuclearize so obviously that has to be complete, verifiable and irreversible".

The general, No Kwang Chol, returned Trump's offer of a handshake with a salute. It also came two days after Trump said he would stop "expensive, provocative" war games with the ROK.
