Salmonella outbreak linked to pre-cut melon

At this point, at least 60 people across nine states most recently including Georgia, have been sickened by salmonella according the Centers for Disease Control. Now, the CDC stated that the salmonellosis was caused, in this case, by pre-cut melons, among others, all sold by a food distributor in Indianapolis. Additionally, the agency says MI consumers who bought pre-cut melon at a Kroger store should also throw out the product.

The CDC said that 31 people have hospitalised due to the outbreak and no death cases have been reported as yet.

Symptoms from a salmonella infection usually appear between 12 and 72 hours after consuming contaminated food, according to the CDC. The illness often lasts four to seven days.

A warning about a salmonella outbreak that's apparently linked to pre-cut melons that were sold at Walmart and other stores in the Midwest. Thirty-one people have been hospitalized.

A multi-state Salmonella outbreak in the Midwest has left at least six people ill in IL.

Kroger announced last week it had removed the affected products from its stores in IN and MI "out of an abundance of caution", and has temporarily suspended shipments of any new products from Caito Foods.

The recall affected melon sent to 10 retailers and there are more than 80 universal product numbers customers should check to see if their melon was possibly contaminated. So far, FDA has reported 60 illnesses that occurred between April 30, 2018 and May 28, 2018.

This year's flu season was the deadliest season for children in almost a decade; pre-cut melons are likely the source of the latest salmonella outbreak; and the FDA has reprimanded AbbVie over failing to properly probe patient death complaints.

The CDC estimates that 1.2 million people in the United States get sick from the bacteria each year, 23,000 of which end up in the hospital. Out of 60 cases, 32 are in MI, so this state appears to be more affected.

"If you don't remember where you bought pre-cut melon, don't eat it and throw it away".

The CDC said that Caito Foods LLC recalled a selection of watermelon, honeydew, cantaloupe, a fruit medley on June 8.

Health officials say only pre-cut melons have been linked at this time and recommend consumers buy whole melons.
