This was their seventh meeting and the sixth win for the Czech who saved three out of six break points and won half of the points on the return to earn six breaks from 14 chances, controlling the scoreboard after losing the opener to successfully defend her crown won 12 months ago. She likes to mix the game a lot, approaching to the net, playing volleys, playing slice.

After breaking serve twice in the first set, Kvitova broke twice more in the second.

Germany's Tatjana Maria clinched her first career title at the age of 30 Sunday by beating Latvia's Anastasija Sevastova 6-4, 7-5 in the Mallorca WTA grasscourt final.

Although Muguruza lost in Birmingham previous year too, she played four useful warmup matches against two this time.

Saturday's result was Kvitova's 51st career victory on the surface and she overtook top-ranked Simona Halep with a tour-leading 36 match wins this year. "Petra, when she's on fire, you can go shake her hand and say, "Okay, I just want to leave from here".

The 28-year-old, who won the second of her two Wimbledon titles in 2014, hasn't been past the third round in her last three appearances at the Grand Slam.

"It does feel awesome, " she said. "I didn't start well in Australia, but now I can't imagine a better season so far". We know each other so long. I didn't put the first serve in which was kind of tough to play then. "It's going to be quite amusing to play her", said Rybarikova.

"I'm not sure how we will celebrate", she said. "We're good friends, so it'll be a fun final".

The Nature Valley Classic final between Kvitova and Rybarikova is scheduled on the Ann Jones Centre Court, at 1:30pm.

Earlier in the day, 2009 victor Magdalena Rybarikova and two-time runner-up Barbora Strycova set up an intriguing semi-final clash after the pair collected convincing victories.

"When she's on fire, you can go shake her hand and say, 'Okay, I just want to leave from here.' She plays absolutely fantastic".
