The trailer, released on Friday, teases Armstrong's journey as he prepares for the most risky space mission in history, aboard the Apollo 11 spaceflight.

Ryan Gosling plays Armstrong with a cropped haircut and intense frown, while Claire Foy is the obligatory anxious wife.

Ryan Gosling is heading into outer space - for his upcoming biopic, First Man.

Well, we say off to the moon, but the film is really about Neil Armstrong (played here by Gosling) and NASA's mission to get astronauts to the lunar surface. Kyle Chandler, Corey Stoll, Jason Clarke and Brian d'Arcy James are also part of the cast, among others. However, on viewing the trailer [VIDEO] of "First Man", it is clear that Armstrong went through some terrifying and uncertain days, training for his mission to the moon. The film is based on James Hansen's book "First Man: A Life Of Neil A. Armstrong". Chazelle explains: "we wanted to tell the story about one of the most epic accomplishments in human history, but root it very much in the intimate and the day to day details of what it was actually like".

The film focuses on the lead-up to and events of that fateful event, chronicling Armstrong's life from the early 60s up until his historic achievement. Speaking to another reporter, Armstrong mentioned that down on Earth you look up and don't think too much about the moon.

While Armstrong is confident in his future achievement, his wife Janet is not so sure. The film lands in theaters on October 12. "You're not just going to work".
