Golden State Warriors withstand LeBron James’ 51 points to win opener

The Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors meet for the fourth consecutive year in the NBA Finals beginning later tonight.

All of the late drama meant James' heroic performance - 51 points, eight assists and eight rebounds - was reduced to a footnote.

However, that contradicts Smith's reaction in the aftermath of his play, when he was caught on camera mouthing "I thought we were ahead" to LeBron. "We're in the fight now". Instead of Cleveland getting to eat up some clock and make it a two possession game, Durant knocked down two free throws and tied it up.

"This is how I look when I'm trying to get my wife to understand what I'm saying", Panthers wide receiver Torrey Smith joked.

"So when they called the charge, I was surprised, but I'm glad they reviewed it". "I saw him drive, I was outside the charge line, I stepped into the contact", he said. It's a huge play.

Some fans felt that James was too far from restricted area to have a review triggered. Just like you can review out of bounds calls. "So we got to do a better job of helping him out", Durant said after the win.

"It was determined he was out of the restricted area, but he was not in a legal guarding position prior to Durant's separate shooting motion", referee Ken Mauer told a pool reporter. But officials went to the replay and changed the call to a block.

Warriors' point guard Steph Curry said: "It was a insane game, I think all Game 1s are just different in their own right because you're having to adjust to a certain style of play, a different team".

As for allowing James to go off for 51 points, Kerr said, "They have a guy who is playing basketball at a level I'm not sure anybody's ever seen before". "It's just I thought we were going to take a timeout because I got the rebound". I think he was out the rest of the quarter. With the game tied at 106, James' side had the chance to win as J.R. Smith collected the rebound after George Hill missed his second free throw.

The game went to overtime and Cleveland imploded.

The Warriors have three wins to go, the Cavaliers have a mountain to climb.

"Kevin was standing right there". "I tried to get enough space because, obviously, KD [Kevin Durant] was standing right there". I thought we were all aware of what was going on.

Curry drained one of those three-pointers that have been hard to come by this postseason to beat the half-time buzzer and Golden State shot 13 for 36 from deep.

The overtime blowout did not prevent the game from ending in a controversial manner, however, with an altercation between Cavs big man Tristan Thompson and Warriors forward Draymond Green.
