Bourdain's body was found in his French hotel room by close friend and fellow chef Éric Ripert.

The CEO of New York City's popular Chinese restaurant chain Xi'an Famous Foods credits celebrity chef Anthony Bourdain with helping his family live the American dream. He also revealed that a medical expert confirmed that there were no signs of violence.

'He'd put everything into the shoots and then go back to his room to isolate'. He always went home between filming episodes to spend time with is 11-year-old daughter, Ariana, who lives with his ex-wife Ottavia Busia, a mixed-martial-arts fighter, in NY.

In an earlier interview on the road with People, Bourdain said he had no plans to retire.

Bourdain's mother, Gladys Bourdain, told The New York Times that Ripert had told her that "Tony had been in a dark mood these past couple of days", but that she had no idea why he might have made a decision to kill himself.

Olive Qutub's head chef Dhruv Oberoi remembers being very surprised on seeing Bourdain enjoy beer with former US President Barack Obama, in one of the episodes of Bourdain's show, "Parts Unknown".

King also met Bourdain while filming "Kitchen Confidential", a 2005 sitcom based on his bestselling memoir.

At the restaurant, which is known for its reasonably priced food, Obama and Bourdain ate grilled pork and noodles together and spent just $6 (around Rs 390 that time).

Via a posting on Instagram, Chef Wan, who was Bourdain's guest on the show, said he worked hard to crack up the American, whom he thought was the archetypal serious chef figure. "He was that friend we watched and we journeyed with to parts unknown".

"We thought it was odd", waiter Maxime Voinson told The New York Times, recalling Bourdain's no-show the night before his suicide.

Reached by The Post, Bourdain's mother, Gladys, 83, a longtime Times editor, could barely speak. He was brilliant and sharp and amusing. He really moved me. At the time, Wang was in college and had no idea who Anthony Bourdain was, but he would never forgot him afterwards. "He was quite a character, I will say".

"One of the funniest things was Tony's craving for Popeye's chicken", he recalled. "You think it's probably a fake", the restaurant's sommelier, Herve Fleuriel, told The AP, recalling "that great Chef who was here on Wednesday lunch". "What do you like to cook?' And everywhere in the world we go and ask these simple questions, we tend to get some really astonishing answers", he said. "To have a man of his stature rise up and befriend me, it meant a lot to me".
