J.R. Smith Caught Lying After Game 1 Of The NBA Finals

Golden State Warriors Kevin Durant throws up his hands following a play against Houston Rockets James Harden and Clint Capela during the first quarter in Game 6 of the NBA Western Conference finals at Oracle Arena in Oakland Calif. on S

The Warriors won Game 1 on Thursday night, beating the Cavs in overtime 124-114 despite 51 points by LeBron James.

WIth Cleveland leading 104-102 and approximately 40 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter, Warriors forward Kevin Durant drove to the basket against the Cavaliers' Jeff Green. And if the Warriors just withstood the best shot James and the Cavaliers could deliver (not outside the realm of possibilities, considering the difficulties that go with attempted replications of a 50-point outburst), this could be a short series. The referee crew elected to review the play, an option afforded to them by the National Basketball Association rulebook, to examine whether James was situated fully outside the restricted area. Instead of Cleveland getting to eat up some clock and make it a two possession game, Durant knocked down two free throws and tied it up. I don't know what else to say....

Smith said later that he knew the game was tied but figured the team was going to take a timeout. That was certainly the case in Game 1, and if he continues to lead this team against the force that is LeBron James then Curry should be in line to finally get a Finals MVP award under his belt.

When all was said and done Thursday night, Cleveland Cavaliers coach Tyronn Lue wishes the National Basketball Association could have reviewed the review.

"To do what he did tonight and come out robbed, it's just not right", Lue said.

While Kerr said he did not have time to watch the replay, Lue expressed frustration with the decision.

Let's play along. How could we not after the show this floor general put on throughout the game's opening half and the closing minutes of regulation?

"I want to thank Shaq for acknowledging me for missing three dunks in a game as a 6-11 guy", Embiid said in a video accepting the award. But, Thompson would return and posted 24 points. "That's if you're lucky, you'll get to that point", James, 33, said Wednesday. After LeBron hit a clutch bucket, Curry responded with an and-1 that gave the Warriors the lead.

In James' first stint in Cleveland, he certainly could have used a player like Iguodala when they took on teams with a championship-level assortment of offensive talent.

Asked about Thompson's scare after the game, Warriors coach Steve Kerr stated "It looked pretty bad".

James, in his 15th year in the league, will break his personal record for most games in a single regular season plus postseason when he suits up for the 101st time in Thursday's Game 1 (9 p.m. ET, ABC).
