Jared Leto sinking teeth into Marvel's Morbius the Living Vampire

Sources told Variety that Espinosa met Leto last month in Germany while the Suicide Squad star - who played The Joker in the superhero movie - was touring with his band, Thirty Seconds to Mars.

Morbius is "a scientist who tried to cure himself of a blood disease, with tragic results".

Morbius was introduced in 1971 by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gil Kane in "The Amazing Spider-Man #101". Avi Arad will produce, which is further excellent news.

This new film joins a slew of Spider-Man spinoffs Sony is now developing in the wake of losing the actual hero himself to Disney's Marvel Cinematic Universe.

This isn't Leto's first flirtation with playing a bloodsucker, as in 2016 when director Josh Boone was publicly courting the actor to star as Lestat in a reboot of Anne Rice's Interview With the Vampire.

Leto's performance as The Joker in Suicide Squad was met with mixed reactions, though, possibly the more widespread reactions are those attributed to how he prepared for the role. Scheduled for July 5, 2019, the follow-up will feature Tom Holland's Peter Parker in his Junior year at Midtown School of Science and Technology following the events of 2018's Avengers: Infinity War and its summer 2019 sequel, which will also feature Holland as Spider-Man.

"The two people who are reading it, I can't name obviously because they haven't said yes, but they said, 'The Jeff Buckley story hasn't been told, and we're huge fans.' So that's a start, but one of them said, 'Wow it's got the love story, you meet your wife on the road with Jeff Buckley".
