Report Clippers send Austin Rivers to Wizards for Gortat

The Washington Wizards made their first big move of the offseason Tuesday night by trading longtime starting center Marcin Gortat to the Los Angeles Clippers for guard Austin Rivers.

Rivers, the son of Clippers Coach Doc Rivers, will join the Wizards at the start of his seventh National Basketball Association season.

Though this trade is a bit of a head-scratcher that accomplishes little for either side, it's worth taking a look at what the Wizards and Clippers both get out of the deal. The reactions to the news of the trade were as amusing as you'd expect. The 25-year-old averaged 15.1 points and 4.0 assists in 61 games (59 starts), missing the entire month of January with a right Achilles tendon injury.

On the other hand, this might be an effort to replace DeAndre Jordan who's rumored to opt out of his contract and become a free agent.

Gortat has one season remaining on his deal at $13.6 million.

Now that Doc Rivers is no longer running the Los Angeles Clippers' front office in addition to coaching the team, the franchise finally traded away his son.
