According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Marco Asensio is the subject of interest from Liverpool, who are having to identify possible alternatives to Nabil Fekir.

Despite interest from European Champions Real Madrid, The Mirror states "The Frenchman still wants to move to Reds".

After seemingly missing out on Nabil Fekir, Liverpool are looking at alternatives.

But Balague says there has been no movement on Asensio leaving Real Madrid for Liverpool.

"The player wants to move to Liverpool one of the biggest clubs in the world". But perhaps Nabil Fekir denied the news about his injury and proclaimed his knee is "super good".

To add to their woes, the competition for Fekir is increasing by the day, with Real Madrid now being linked with him as well. The Liverpool boss has thus, been in the market for an attacking reinforcement who couldn't just be an option beyond the trio, but also to complement them in the starting lineup. The German tactician asked the Liverpool board to make a move for the midfielder past year, leading to an opening bid of 50 million euros, which was rejected out of hand.

It would be intriguing to see how Fekir would fit in at Anfield, as the role he played so well last season for Lyon-in support of a centre-forward-didn't exist in this Liverpool side when they were at their best in 2017-18.

The Bernabéu board then made their move, handing Asensio a new contract running until 2023 and inserting a buy-out clause of 700 million euros into the deal.

Real Madrid's interest in the Lyon captain was there even when the Ligue 1 giants were in negotiations to sell the player to Liverpool earlier this month.
