Michael Cohen Dropped His Legal Representation, Is Expected to Cooperate with Mueller

President Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen is likely to cooperate with federal prosecutors

Unconfirmed reports also said that Cohen is likely to become a witness for the prosecution in a case against President Donald Trump. The Wall Street Journal confirmed the story Wednesday with "a person familiar with the matter".

Cohen, whose office and home were raided in April, has been represented by Ryan and Todd Harrison of McDermott, Will & Emery LLP.

A special master determined last week that just 162 of the 300,000 items she reviewed were protected by attorney-client privilege.

Cohen's current legal team is expected to stay with him for the rest of the week as they struggle to complete a laborious review of a trove of documents and data files seized from him by authorities two months ago. Stormy Daniels, the adult film star who claims she had sex with Trump in 2006 and was then paid $130,000 to keep quiet about it, has also asked to join the case.

It's unclear if who will represent Cohen moving forward.

Cohen will hire a new lawyer for the next phase of the probe, the person said.

Cohen, ABC News reported, is no longer represented by Stephen Ryan and Todd Harrison of the Washington and NY firm McDermott, Will & Emery, and no replacement has been identified. When reached for comment by Vanity Fair, the lawyer replied, "Your alleged source is wrong!" "If anyone can blow up Trump, it's him". But these are his only two real options, as his case plays out in the Southern District of NY.

Any cooperation by Cohen with prosecutors would represent a significant blow to Trump, whose campaign is under investigation for alleged collusion with Russian Federation and who regularly expresses acute frustration with investigators.

At least one reporter has said that despite the departure of his lawyers and the whispers of cooperation with the feds, Cohen is sending a message to Trump for help.
