Microsoft Reveals HALO: INFINITE With Surprise Trailer at E3

New Halo game announced at E3 2018

E3, short for Electronic Entertainment Expo, officially opens Tuesday, but several large game publishers and hardware makers are holding preshow events.

It's been a long time since we've received a proper new Battletoads game. Even on the Switch are games like Mario Odyssey and Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild. Ninja Theory was probably the surprise and it may lead to Xbox only sequels to Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice and Devil May Cry. That device "will set the benchmark for console gaming".

The new studios will all be housed beneath the Microsoft Studios brand alongside a new venture called The Initiative led by former Crystal Dynamics head of studio Darrell Gallagher.

Three years later, Xbox's backward compatibility for older games has become one of the console's defining features. There's a new Halo, multiple Gears of War games, and a multitude of trailers for everything from Kingdom Hearts III to Fallout 76.

There are a few more details on the blog of developer 343 Studios that give you some very brief ideas of what exactly Halo Infinite is.

This trailer arrives almost three years after the release of Halo 5: Guardians.

Ori and the Will of the Wisps was also shown off more this E3, showing the real beauty and majesty that is being injected into the sequel to a well-received classic. But the company continues to put more resources into the Xbox consoles and its gaming business overall.

For some people, the news of these acquisitions may be a case of "too little, too late". That's pretty much the extent of what was explicitly mentioned in the trailer, although, given the appearance of a hoverbike halfway through, one might wonder if they will show up in the final game.

And that, as they say, was that. The goal of the entire 343 Industries team is to make a great Halo game for our fans that also invites new players into our franchise.
