The previous report had claimed that the Snapdragon 1000 may include Cortex A76 performance cores and lightweight Cortex A55 cores. It's pretty much aimed to be going head-to-head against Intel's Y and U series Core processors. The successor to the mighty Snapdragon 850 is believed to be a powerhouse that's more than capable of running Windows 10. While the Y-series processors have a 4.5W TDP (Thermal Design Power), the U-series has a considerably higher TDP of 15W. A new report suggests that after this 850 SoC the follow-up chipset would be the new Snapdragon 1000 SoC.

A test platform for the Snapdragon 1000 brings 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM, two 128GB flash storage modules, 802.11ad gigabit Wi-Fi, and gigabit LTE; you can expect to see devices launch with similar specs when the chip finally debuts.

Qualcomm has been busy the past few months, rather than just relying on the mobile phone industry which is stagnating somewhat, they have been working on new chips that can fill the void of declining phone sales.

It uses a newly developed power management chip to handle the SoC's increased power usage. Unfortunately for Intel, the company already has its hands full with 10nm manufacturing struggles and the growing popularity of ARM-powered PCs.

It would make the device suitable for a wider range of computing devices, with motherboard manufacturers encouraged to offer Snapdragon 1000-socketed motherboards for PC and gadget makers to make their own computers from, such as low-power desktops and NUC-style compact computers.

This also means that the Qualcomm Snapdragon 1000 could be the biggest SoC from Qualcomm, which means that the chipset might not feature on any smartphone what so ever.
