India gears up to celebrate 4th International Yoga Day

Muscat: The Indian Embassy in Oman is gearing up for their massive yoga session today to commemorate the fourth International Day of Yoga (IDY).

He said the way to lead a calm, creative and content life was Yoga.

Claiming that the world has embraced yoga and glimpses of this can be seen in the manner in which the International Day of Yoga is marked every year, Modi said, "In fact, Yoga Day has become one of the biggest mass movements in the quest for good health and well-being".

Sheikh said the Indian Consulate has been in the forefront in promoting yoga in Kingdom for the last three years.

Initiated with a proposition by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, June 21 was proclaimed International Yoga Day by the United Nations on December 11, 2014.

Two years ago, the influential Mizoram Kohhran Hruaitute Committee, which is a conglomerate of 15 major churches, had boycotted the celebration saying yoga is "dipped in Hinduism".

However in its present-day use, yoga is often no more than a form of exercise, Michael says. "This kind of false propaganda will only keep common people away from yoga and reduce its popularity", he said.

International Yoga Day is a global event that raises awareness throughout the world of the benefits of practicing yoga.

Speculation was rife that Nitish might take part in the celebrations this year following his return to the BJP-led NDA in August last which he had left in 2013.

People of all ages can be found practicing yoga in parks all over the country.

Modern Western references such as the Oxford English Dictionary define yoga as a "spiritual and ascetic discipline" which includes "breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures".

In Bihar, Nitish Kumar did not participate in the main Yoga Day event in Patna which set tongues wagging.

Modi stated: 'Yoga is an invaluable gift of India's ancient tradition.

"We know that Nitish Kumar is a yoga enthusiast". Thanks to the efforts of Nouf Marwaai, yoga has been popularized here.

To make the event more relatable to the audiences in the UAE, Saba Khan, founder of House of Nature, a holistic alternative medicine and natural therapy in Abu Dhabi, has created a special Arabic Fusion Yoga.

Eastern Naval Command's submarine staff also participated in International Yoga Day.Sailors do yoga in what is probably the submarine's torpedo room.

Stories of a large number of people taking to yoga has come from different Gulf countries and around the world. "Yoga contributes not only to physical fitness but also to mind fitness, it has nothing to do with any religion or region", he added.
