President Donald Trump said Thursday he expects a delegation of North Korean officials to travel from NY to Washington on Friday to deliver a letter to him from North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.

"Even if the North Korea-US summit is held as planned and the talks go well, I don't think that the US will agree to declare an end to the Korean War immediately in Singapore", said Park Won-gon, a professor at Handong Global University.

"We are meeting with the Chairman (Kim Jong-un) on June 12 (in Singapore)".

Speaking outside the White House, Donald Trump also said hundreds of new sanctions are ready to go on North Korea, but he would hold off.

His travel restrictions were lifted this week so he could fly to NY and Washington, DC to meet USA officials, the Department of State said. Can you believe that we're talking about the ending of the Korean what you talking about 70 years here.

"We will push forward to test the proposition that we can achieve that outcome", he said.

Chol traveled to Washington D.C. Friday morning after meetings in NY with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

Who is Kim Yong-chol, the North Korean official representing Kim Jong-un? "We've gotten to know their people very well", he said, adding that more meetings would likely follow.

"Therefore, please let this letter serve to represent that the Singapore summit, for the good of both parties, but to the detriment of the world, will not take place".

"I told him today: 'Take your time".

There had been speculation in the South Korean media that Gen. Kim would be carrying a letter for Mr. Trump to respond to the one the president sent to the North Korean leader last week.

He had been personally sanctioned by the United States over his role in the North's nuclear weapons program and is thought to have masterminded an attack that sank a South Korean naval vessel in 2010, killing 46 sailors. "How much?" he said.

However, Trump on Thursday conceded for the first time that the negotiations with Pyongyang might require more than one summit.

"Well, I think they want to do that". The agency quoted Kim as saying that the North's willingness for the "denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula still remains unchanged" but also that the process should be "stage-by-stage basis by founding a solution to meet the interests of each other".

"We're going to start a process", he said.

On May 25, Pyongyang signaled that it is still interested in holding talks with the United States president, which was endorsed by Trump as "the warm and productive statement". "Moscow deserves special commendation for ensuring Pyongyang to maintain momentum for peace on the Korean Peninsula", McGregor concluded.

Pompeo met with Kim Yong Chol, one of the North Korean leader's closest aides, at the apartment residence of the USA deputy ambassador to the United Nations in NY.
