They shook hands for several seconds, Trump reaching out to touch the North Korean leader on his right shoulder.

Speaking before US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un signed a "comprehensive" document following a historic summit in Singapore, Wang said China welcomed their talks and supported them. That is, experts suggest Pyongyang may only agree to give up its nukes in exchange for the US terminating its military presence in South Korea and ending its regional nuclear umbrella, a security arrangement in which Washington promises in-kind retaliation on behalf of close allies if they are attacked with nuclear weapons.

As for where Kim will spend the night, he's opted for the St. Regis Singapore, where it is believed he has checked into the hotel's $11,500-a-night Presidential Suite.

On Saturday, Singaporean Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan told reporters at Beijing Capital International Airport that his country would give the same warm welcome to the North Koreans as they have done to other state guests.

After the lunch, Mr Pompeo said the United States team is looking forward to the summit tomorrow.

"Very good, very good".

North Korea's leader Kim Jong Un shakes hands with US President Donald Trump at the start of their historic US-North Korea summit, at the Capella Hotel on Sentosa island in Singapore. "Ok sometimes that doesn't work out, but sometimes it does", Trump said.

Later - in a meeting that included the leaders' aides - President Trump said he was confident the two sides would make progress.

President Trump committed to provide security guarantees to the DPRK, and Chairman Kim Jong Un reaffirmed his firm and unwavering commitment to complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

In what looks like a victory for American big-stick diplomacy Kim agreed to wind down his nuclear ambitions so long as the USA promised not to attack his country.

That moment came when President Trump was filmed just ahead of his working lunch with Kim.

Members of the U.S. delegation, including USA secretary of state Mike Pompeo, right, and John Bolton, national security adviser, left, and North Korean advisers watch a television screen showing the meeting. "It is responsible for the starvation deaths of millions of North Koreans, and for the imprisonment, torture, killing, and oppression of countless more".

Secretary of State Pompeo said Monday that negotiations with the North Koreans were "moving quite rapidly", and the USA anticipated they would "come to their logical conclusion even more quickly than we had anticipated".

The president said North Korea has a sizable nuclear arsenal and that Kim knows its details and capabilities very well. "I truly hope it will be a successful summit that will open a new age for the two Koreas and the United States and bring us complete denuclearisation and peace".
