Footage showed a house on fire in Williamsburg, Virginia, after the aircraft had crashed into it yesterday.

"The investigation into the pilot, aircraft and cause of the crash is continuing today", the state police statement said, adding that the NTSB will hold a news conference Monday at 2:30 p.m.

Firefighters spent several hours putting out the blaze.

This is the terrifying aftermath of a helicopter crash in a residential area in the United States.

According to troopers, a 911 call was received at 4:42 Sunday afternoon for the aircraft crash into the residential community on Settlement Drive, right off Ironbound Road. The crash caused a fire in the structure.

Police are not sure what injuries, if any, have occurred.

Paul Leslie, who lives in a building near the crash, told the Williamsburg Yorktown Daily that he heard a helicopter "come overhead" that "basically didn't sound right".

The Federal Aviation Administration and National Transportation Safety Board are also responding to the scene.

The communications office of the College of William & Mary tweeted that an "aviation incident" has been reported in a residential area near Dillard Complex.
