Cheryl Cole and Liam Payne have split up

Liam Payne, 24, and singer Cheryl Cole, 35, are going their separate directions ways.

On Sunday night, Cheryl announced that she and Liam were going their separate ways in a statement posted on Twitter.

"While this decision was a hard one, we continue to have a great deal of love and respect for one another".

"The enormous amount of love and respect that we have for each other will only increase as we move forward", they said in a joint statement.

Not long after, Cheryl shared an nearly identical message on her Twitter account.

The One Direction star and the former "X Factor" judge have been dating since 2016.

Cheryl is reportedly leaning on her mum after her break up with Liam Payne.

Since then Liam became part of the one of the biggest boy bands in the world, launched a solo career AND became a dad! I thought "oh you're into this".

They have a son called Bear who is one year old.

Evidently, the decision was made shortly after the two were together.

Also, according to the Daily Mail, Callaghan posed a "problem" in the former pair's relationship and got "in the way". "A day that now has a different meaning to me forever". "But we go through them together as a family and that's the most important thing for me".

"I'm not gonna sit here and say that everything's absolutely fine and dandy", he told ES Magazine.

Their last public outing together was at the 2018 BRIT Awards, which were held in London all the way back in FEBRUARY.

The singer went on to pay tribute to her mum, adding that Cheryl's relationship had "nothing whatsoever to do with her".
