Australia were ruthless against Pakistan in their opening clash

A slew of records tumbled as Australia took on Zimbabwe in the Twenty20 tri-series at Harare Sports Club on Tuesday, with the tourists' captain Aaron Finch setting a record score in Twenty20 Internationals.

In the process, he registered the highest individual score in T20I cricket, breaking his own record.

The wickets continued to tumble thereafter, with Andrew Tye claiming a hugely impressive 3-11 from his four overs, and slow-left-arm spinner Ashton Agar pitching in with 2-16 as Zimbabwe crumbled to 129-9, slipping to a second defeat in two.

Finch's previous best came against England, when he scored 156 off 63 balls at Southampton on August 29, 2013.

Finch's 172 left him three short of Chris Gayle's highest-ever T20 innings which he made for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League five years ago, against a Pune Warriors side captained by Finch.

Short hit a sedate 46 off 42 balls before he was first dismissed by Blessing Muzarabani, off the second ball of the final over.

Let us take a look at the list of records created during his stay at the crease.

Australia took 75 from the Powerplay, with Finch doing the bulk of the scoring while fellow opener D'Arcy Short was content to turn the strike over to his big-hitting partner.

Australian opener Aaron Finch blazed past his own Twenty20 global batting world record and relegated a pair of Black Caps to second place in Harare.

2 - Aaron Finch reached his second T20I 150.

172 - This is the highest score by any batsman in T20Is.
