At least three undocumented migrants drowned after their boat sank off Libya's coast in the Mediterranean Sea, an official said Friday, APA reports quoting Anadolu Agency.

"We have sent a clear message to all vessels, including those of NGOs, operating in the Mediterranean, that they must respect the law and must not obstruct the operation of the Libyan Coast Guard", said Tusk.

Just 16 of the migrants were rescued, with the rest feared dead, including two babies and three children under the age of 12.

Macron said "it's up to Italy to choose" to accept centers where asylum-requests from migrants from rescue ships would be processed with European financing and support.

Spanish maritime rescue services have brought ashore 90 migrants pulled up from boats as they attempted to cross the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco.

Karline Kleijer, head of emergencies for Doctors Without Borders, said Friday that there is "extreme violence and abuses that refugees and migrants suffer in Libya".

The motor caught fire and water began to enter the vessel, they said.

Not far from the Libyan coast capsized boat of refugees, only 14 people survived. More than 2,000 were returned by the Libyan coast guard last week.

The poorly-equipped Libyan coastguard were forced to abandon most of the bodies of migrants who died in Friday's shipwreck "for lack of resources", a coastguard captain said.

Libya is a preferred point of departure for migrants who want to cross the Mediterranean toward Europe because of insecurity and chaos in their countries.

Friday's tragedy transpired in the wake of a compromise worked out by European Union leaders over the issue of migration.

He also noted that it has been the fifth year in a row that the more than 1,000 migrant deaths have occurred in the Mediterranean, as reported by The Associated Press.
