"Chelsea Football Club and Antonio Conte have parted company", a brief statement read.

The club have refused to comment on the status of the 48-year-old, who won the Premier League title in his first season and the FA Cup in May.

However, the Italian, who is expected to be replaced by former Napoli manager Maurizio Sarri in the near future, is said to be 'disgusted' with his treatment from the West London club.

Conte delivered trophies in his two years at Chelsea but also brought controversy.

Sarri is central to Chelsea's 14th change of coach since Roman Abramovich arrived in 2003, although yet again there will be a costly severance payment to the outgoing coach.

But it will be another fresh start for Chelsea with Sarri becoming the club's seventh permanent manager since 2011. It was on the cards long before last season's FA Cup triumph, which came less than 12 months after he won the Premier League. "Good luck for the future".

But, despite winning the FA Cup last season - beating Manchester United in the final, Chelsea have ditched Conte ahead of the new campaign.

Chelsea have until August 9 to complete all their summer purchases.

It's been a disastrous summer at Stamford Bridge thus far, with the club yet to make any new signings.

Morata enjoyed two successful seasons in Juventus before being recalled to Real Madrid, but his former side would prefer cash for Higuain rather than a swap deal.

Antonio Conte's departure from Chelsea is the latest episode in the "boom and bust" story of managerial life at Stamford Bridge.

The Italian has taken most of his backroom staff with him with only Paolo Bertelli, Carlo Cudicini and goalkeeping coach, Gianluca Spinelli, considering staying at Chelsea for the coming season.
