Do you have Comcast? There's a massive service outage across the country

We've asked Comcast, Charter Spectrum and Verizon if they could shed some light on what happened but did not immediately hear back.

Original story: Comcast customers are reporting widespread internet outages, both to downdetector.com, which has received over 8,000 reports at the time of writing, and to the Comcast Twitter account. Service in some sections of the country remained intact, but many large markets from coast to coast have been affected.

"We are aware and working to restore service as quickly as possible". Down Detector, which tracks connection problems through crowdsourced reports, had thousands of people claiming that their Comcast service is down since 9:30 a.m.

Initially, Comcast had said a single "fiber cut" had been affecting its customers, as well as other providers.

Cable giant Comcast and its Xfinity cable service suffered a massive outage on Friday.

"It is now affecting our business and residential internet, video and voice customers", the company wrote on Twitter midday Friday.

The company said here the fiber cut is also impacting other providers. "We again apologize to anyone who was impacted".

Comcast has confirmed it is working on major outages nationwide.

The outage began about 1 p.m. ET on Friday.
