Similar protests were held in cities and towns across the country mostly led by Democratic party leaders and rights activists on Saturday demanded that Trump's immigration policies be humane and under no circumstances separate kids from their parents who cross the border illegally.

Tens of thousands of people, including Indian Americans, took to streets in several US cities to protest against controversial immigration policies of President Donald Trump which has resulted in separation of children of illegal immigrants.

BlueWave NJ is suggesting for those attending the march to consider carpooling to Newark.

Here's a sampling of other public figures who have spoken out in support of the Families Belong Together movement.

After the rally, at least 200 of the protesters continued the march to Portland's regional Immigration and Customs Enforcement office on SW Macadam Ave, where they joined the group of protesters who've been camping out next to the facility for almost two weeks.

On June 28, a sit-in protest called #WomenDisobey was held to oppose Trump's immigration policies at the Hart Senate Office building on Capitol Hill.

Gasper's mother, Sara said she made her sons do their own research on the policy changes before coming to Saturday's rally. I mean, did you see Melania's "Be Best" logo?

"I missed nine months of his life and it should never have happened", said the woman, Jocelyn, whose case dates from before the practice of separating families intensified in May.

Hundreds of children remain separated from their parents in shelters throughout the US.

"We have a number of our members in L.A. County for Trump will be broadcasting our counter-protest live on Facebook and YouTube", organizer Arthur Schaper said.

You can find more information about the rally on the event's website.

Other protesters converged on the worldwide bridge that carries traffic between El Paso and Juarez, Mexico. "It's up to each of us, and to the millions of Americans outraged by his actions to stand up, fight back, and demand action", she said.

However, the zero-tolerance policy also remains in effect and many children may be held indefinitely.

Under previous administrations, parents and children were often released to pursue immigration claims at liberty in the United States.

A 19-year-old protester, MacKenzie Banks was seen carrying a poster that read - "If these children lived in my uterus would y'all start caring" at the demonstration in Washington D.C.

Demonstrations were also likely to focus on the shake-up of the Supreme Court after Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement last week, giving President Trump the opportunity to solidify a conservative majority on the country's top court.
