A screen and podium appear on stage at the 70th Primetime Emmy Nominations Announcements at the Television Academy's Saban Media Center on Thursday, July 12, 2018, in Los Angeles. Its nods included best drama, the category it won in 2015 and 2016.

Netflix's 112 nominations took away the front-runner title that HBO held since 2001, giving cable and broadcast TV more reason to fear their future in viewers as well as honors. It will face newcomers including "The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel" and "Barry", starring Bill Hader.

Although season seven of Game of Thrones aired in summer 2017, due to the Emmys' eligibility cutoff, the HBO drama had to wait until this year to submit anything for consideration. Saturday Night Live and Westworld both grabbed 21 nominations each, while The Handmaid's Tale secured 20 nominations.

Game of Thrones has received the most nominations for this year's Emmy Awards, with the HBO fantasy drama getting 22 nods in total. It got 23 nods in 2016 but wasn't eligible a year ago.

The Emmy Awards will be presented September 17 on NBC with Colin Jost and Michael Che of "Saturday Night Live" as hosts.

While many might remember Eggold from "The Blacklist", the actor is gearing up for the fall release of his new drama "New Amsterdam", in which he plays an incoming medical director who has bold new ideas on how to change the culture at the landmark hospital.
