Anger over gang rape, assault of 8-year-old girl in India

As per the doctors the girl is conscious and talking to her parents. The second accused has also been sent to police remand.

An eight-year-old girl was gang raped after being lured away by a man while she waited for her dad to pick up from school in India, just days after a six-year-old was murdered and mutilated in the same state.

She required two operations because of the injuries she suffered, and was left deeply traumatised by the attack in Mandsaur.

According to the police, she was abducted from outside her school while she waited to be collected from school. The police had earlier said that after raping her, the accused slit her throat with a knife and fled. It took two surgeries for over three hours each to fix the survivor's damaged rectum. We demand a CBI inquiry in the case.

The government said that Rs 5 lakh has been transferred to the girl's father account.

Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday condemned the incident and said that rapists were a "burden on the earth" and his government will leave no stone unturned to ensure that the accused were hanged.

While paying a visit to the rape victim, the BJP leaders - Sudhir Gupta who is Mandsaur-Neemuch BJP legislator and Sudarshan Gupta who is a Indore lawmaker and also BJP's state unit vice president - made sure that the visit gets recorded. After discharge from the hospital, the girl would be provided counselling by a senior psychiatrist.

The police subsequently arrested the two accused - Irfan alias Bhaiyu (20) and Asif (24) - and booked them under the relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Taking to Twitter, the Gandhi scion said the brutality that the child was subjected to sickens him. "As a nation, we must come together to protect our children and bring the attackers to speedy justice".
