As People notes, the ceremony was conducted by the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend Justin Welby.

The christening marked Louis' second public appearance since his birth in April.

Prince Louis will be christened today.

From a distance, the Duchess of Cambridge appeared to have just told her stylist "same old" when asked what she would like to wear to the christening of her third child, Prince Louis, at St James's Palace in London on Monday.

His eldest sibling Prince George, 4, clutched his dad Prince William's hand and had his trademark look of vague distaste on his face (god I love this kid) while sister Princess Charlotte, 3, looked mostly confused. Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip were not present at the christening of their sixth great-grandchild Monday afternoon, according to a guest list released by Kensington Palace earlier in the day. He was baptized at the Chapel Royal on the grounds of St James's Palace in London, just like his older brother George.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will attend, along with the Cambridges, Prince Charles and Camilla, the Middleton family and Prince Louis' godparents.

A royal source said it had been agreed some time ago that the 92-year-old queen would not attend the small, family affair and her absence was not due to any health issues.

The tradition of this particular christening gown harkens back to Queen Victoria, who commissioned the garment for the royal baptism of her daughter Victoria in 1841; you can glimpse one of its earliest representations in a painting of the event from the era.

The outfit was reminiscent of what the Duchess of Cambridge has worn to both Prince George and Princess Charlotte's christenings.

The Duke and Duchess have asked six close friends and family members to become Louis' godparents.

It's days like today that make being a mom so special for Kate Middleton.

Prince William and the former Kate Middleton later hosted a tea at Clarence House, where they served a christening cake made from a tier of their wedding cake, the palace said.
