Billy Dee Williams to Return as Lando Calrissian in ‘Star Wars: Episode IX’

Billy Dee Williams will once again don his iconic cape to reprise his role as Lando Calrissian.

Billy Dee Williams is reportedly returning to the big screen as Lando Calrissian in the next "Star Wars" film.

Rumors began to swirl regarding his involvement when the 81-year-old actor backed out of an appearance at an upcoming sci-fi convention, explaining that the event conflicted with his scheduled involvement in the production of an upcoming film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The character made his suave debut in Empire Strikes Back.

But on the big screen it seemed like Williams would pass the mantle onto Donald Glover, who played the young version of the dashing gambler in this year's Han Solo-centric prequel, Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Williams's most recent film was 2017's The Lego Batman Movie, where he voiced Harvey Dent, the lawyer who becomes supervillain Two-Face - a character he had previously played in Tim Burton's live-action Batman (1989).

Hot on the heels of news that Keri Russell, yes, Felicity's Keri Russell, was cast in Star Wars: Episode IX, we get confirmation that the galaxy's original far far away player is due back in his fabulous blue coat.

The film, directed by J.J. Abrams, is set for release December 20, 2019, with filming expected to start soon.

Star Wars: Episode IX will conclude the third trilogy of Star Wars movies that began with Star Wars: The Force Awakens followed up by Star Wars: The Last Jedi.
