He told KDNA: 'We saw a killer and didn't want to get stabbed.

Thirty-year-old Timmy Kinner of Los Angeles has been charged with several felonies in connection with the attack. The woman realized that the situation wasn't working out, and she asked him to leave on Friday.

Twelve-year-old Esrom Habte was playing with friends in the late-evening light outside his family's apartment Saturday night when he says he saw a man begin attacking some of his neighbors. As part of former President Barack Obama's refugee resettlement program of 2012, Boise has become a magnet for refugees, including many from Syria.

Boise Police Chief Bill Bones said the 3-year-old girl was one of those seriously injured in the attack.

Kinner, who has a criminal record, wasn't cooperative with officials, Bones added.

Nine people in all were hurt in the attack, including the birthday girl.

Bones said there is no specific evidence that the stabbings were a hate crime, though police were still investigating.

Bones identified the suspect as a 30-year-old man from out of state, but were not aware of the motive. He declined to provide additional details on the victims. Numerous victims of the attack have been seriously injured and are from Syria, Iraq and Ethiopia.

The children ranged in age from 3 to 12 years old. Three adults were also injured while trying to help the children.

"Our victims are some of the newest members of our community".

"You can imagine this is a very tight-knit community here in this apartment complex", Bones said Saturday night.

Boise Mayor Dave Bieter said the attack "does not represent Boise" and he asked citizens of the community to keep the victims in their prayers.

Kinner did leave the complex - but then returned Sunday "to exact vengeance, not just on those he had been with. but at any target which was available", according to Bones. Some were gravely wounded, Bones said.

For some of the refugees living at the complex, the attack revived traumatic memories of the war and violence they had fled.

Prior to the three-year-old's death, Kinner was scheduled to appear in court Monday for the attack. Police released no additional details, except to say that the suspect was not a refugee.

Police describe a horrific scene Saturday at an apartment complex in Boise, Idaho.

According to ABC 7 News, nine people were stabbed, including four children aged four to 12 were injured. "Those nine victims have been transported to the local emergency room, all are receiving treatment; unfortunately some of those victims in addition are suffering from life-threatening injuries".
