Michael Cohen: "My Silence is Broken"

Michael Cohen, the longtime personal attorney to President Trump, seemed to distance himself from the president in an extensive new interview - repeatedly saying his family has his "first loyalty" and parting with Trump on criticism of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.

Stephanapoulos asked Cohen how he would respond if Trump eventually starts treating him like an adversary.

"My wife, my daughter and my son have my first loyalty and always will", Cohen was quoted as saying by ABC's George Stephanopoulos in an off-camera interview that was reported on "Good Morning America". Stephanopoulos tweeted a similar photo.

Abrams went on to say what an "amazing statement" it was for Cohen to say that the Federal Bureau of Investigation agents were kind to him when they raided his office and took thousands of his documents.

ABC will air an interview Monday with President Donald Trump's longtime lawyer Michael Cohen.

But last month, a source told CNN that Cohen may be willing to answer prosecutors' questions about the president.

Following that search, the president did a phone interview with Fox and Friends in which he stated that Cohen did a "tiny, tiny little fraction" of his legal work. "I want to answer", he said.

Prosecutors are investigating Cohen for possible bank and tax fraud, possible campaign law violations linked to the payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, and possibly other matters related to Trump's campaign, a person familiar with the investigation has said.

The White House has denied that Trump had a sexual encounter with Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, though the president has more recently said he was aware Cohen was making the payment at the time. "I thanked them for their service, and as they left, we shook hands", Mr. Cohen said.

"I don't like the term 'witch hunt, '" Cohen said, taking issue with the way Trump has characterized Mueller's investigation into Russian Federation interference in the 2016 election and possible coordination between the Trump campaign and Russian Federation.

Cohen repeated previous denials that he had any involvement with Russian attempts to interfere with the 2016 presidential election, but he refused to criticize the investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller.

Cohen also denied any personal involvement with Russian attempts to interfere in the U.S. election and said he never colluded with the Russians in any way.

"As an American, I repudiate Russia's or any other foreign government's attempt to interfere or meddle in our democratic process, and I would call on all Americans to do the same", Cohen said, adding that he has not been interviewed by Mueller's team. "It was simply an example of poor judgment".

As the investigation continues, there has been speculation about whether Cohen would flip on Donald Trump.
