Hall H Debut Of New ‘Doctor Who’ Unveils New Season Teaser – Comic-Con

"You are going to be wonderful, I'm overjoyed", said Good Omens and American Gods creator Neil Gaiman on-camera.

"We need a pillar of hope in these times, "Chibnall added later to a roar from the fans about Whittaker being handed the keys to the Tardis".

"All of this is new to me", Whittaker's Doctor said in voiceover. "New faces, new worlds, new times".

It nearly feels like a nod to the first Doctor to kick off the current Doctor Who revival, Christopher Eccleston, who played the Ninth Doctor and had to suffer countless questions asking why an alien sounds like he's from the North.

Other than that, we've only seen her appear in the 2017 Christmas special, when the previous Doctor (played by Peter Capaldi) regenerated into his new form (Whittaker).

Just revealed at Doctor Who's panel at San Diego Comic-Con, the trailer gives us our first real look at Jodie Whittaker in action as the Thirteenth Doctor, as she meets her new best friends Yasmin (Mandip Gill), Ryan (Tosin Cole), and Graham (Bradley Walsh).

The new season of Doctor Who arrives on the BBC in October.

This time the Doctor steps into the TARDIS with three new companions.

While Doctor Who fans are used to change (the Doctor has changed actors multiple times and is explained by a Gallifreyan process called regeneration), this marks the first time that the Doctor has been played by a female actress instead of a male one. Chris Chibnall takes over as head writer and executive producer from Steven Moffat for the series, which is set to return in the fall of 2018 with ten brand new episodes. She takes over for Peter Capaldi, who left as the twelfth Doctor past year. Chibnall hinted in an interview past year that the new season would be filled with risk and boldness, a move solidified by bringing in the first ever woman for the leading role on the series.

Jodie Whittaker has ruled out the possibility of a gender pay gap controversy with the BBC's sci-fi series Doctor Who.
