World Cup golden boot victor Gary Lineker has poured scatching criticism on Brazil's Neymar for the latter's ridiculous playacting in the game against Mexico, claiming the player has "the lowest pain threshold ever in World Cups".

Brazil will now face the victor of the match between Belgium and Japan.

Neymar then set up Firmino for the second goal two minutes from time as Mexico exited in the last-16 for the seventh successive World Cup. Brazil leads Mexico 1-0. Now Brazil will be playing without key defender Marcelo who is still suffering from back spasms.

Brazil's Roberto Firmino (top right) lifts Neymar in the air after scoring the match-clinching goal.

Neymar broke the deadlock six minutes into the second half when he finished off a fine team move-that he himself started-from close range.

His run across goal and clever backheel won Willian space, and the Chelsea midfielder only needed two touches to drive into box and lay the ball across for the world's most expensive player to slide home.

That is not to say that they were not under the cosh in the early stages as Mexico sought to isolate the Brazilian fullbacks Fagner and Filipe Luis, who both looked vulnerable as Carlos Vela and Hirving Lozano bore down on them.

Neymar now has two goals at the 2018 World Cup and will look to add to his tally in the last-eight match on Friday when they will meet the victor of Belgium's clash against Japan.

Neymar scored a 51st minute goal to put Brazil up 1-0 against Mexico.

With 20 minutes left to play, Mexico's Miguel Layun stepped on Neymar's balky ankle.
