Peter Strzok to be 'RECALLED FOR CONTEMPT' After Fiery Testimony — CAPITOL CLASH

The FBI agent who exchanged anti-Trump texts including a missive that "we'll stop" his election and discussed an "insurance policy" against a Trump presidency, denied doing anything wrong professionally before a hearing called by Republican lawmakers who argue that his bias irrevocably tainted the agency's Russian Federation investigation. REUTERS/James Lawler Duggan GOP lawmakers have seized on a text message Strzok sent at the height of the election to Page, with whom he was having an extramarital affair.

"The point of order is not taken", Goodlatte said.

"Agent Strzok, that is a fantastic answer to a question that nobody asked", Gowdy fired back.

"We'll stop it", Strzok texted Page in August 2016 - apparently referring to the prospect of Trump being elected president, according to a June report by the inspector general.

I can assure you, Mr. Chairman, at no time in any of those texts, did those personal beliefs ever enter into the realm of any action I took.

"Throughout the hearing, they weren't trying to get to the bottom and get to the facts that the American people want to know about this".

You will notice that Republicans have not been able to produce any evidence that Strzok or anyone else took any official action that was biased, unfair, or inappropriate in their investigation of Russian meddling and the Trump campaign.

Strzok worked on both the Hillary Clinton email investigation and on special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into Russian election meddling and any ties to the Trump campaign, until he was removed from Mueller's team previous year.

"I am stating to you it is not my understanding that he kicked me off because of any bias that it was done based on the appearance", Strzok said.

Peter Strzok said he had information with "the potential to derail and quite possibly defeat" Trump but said the "thought of expressing that or exposing that information never crossed his mind".

Strzok: "That text in no way suggested that I or the Federal Bureau of Investigation would take any action to influence the candidacy..."

Strzok said he was noting to Page the difference in "expression of political opinion" between different parts of the state.

"I urge our chairmen to change course and to keep their promises to protect the integrity of the special counsel's investigation", Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) said in his opening statement Thursday.

Page told investigators that she and Strzok were having an affair, according to a Justice Department Inspector General's report about the Clinton email investigation, and that they used their work devices to hide that from their spouses.

Although Strzok has said through his lawyer that he was eager to tell his side of the story, he makes clear his exasperation at being the focal point of a congressional hearing at a time when Russian election interference has been successfully "sowing discord in our nation and shaking faith in our institutions".

The controversial texts first came to light in December, when it was revealed that special counsel Robert Mueller dismissed Strzok from his team the previous summer upon learning of the messages.

Page was subpoenaed to appear for a closed-door interview on Wednesday but defied the subpoena, saying she had not been given sufficient time to review the materials related to her testimony. He appeared at a joint hearing before the House Judiciary Committee and House Oversight Committee for several hours.
