'possible' North Korea nuclear deal may not 'work out'

North Korea Has Increased Production of Fuel for Nuclear Weapons Report

United States intelligence is not certain how many nuclear warheads North Korea has.

"We're very well aware of North Korea's patterns of behavior over decades of negotiating with the United States", Bolton said".

According to the report, intelligence officials have obtained new evidence collected in the wake of the landmark June 12 summit in Singapore between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un which points to secret production facilities and efforts to conceal ongoing weapons creation - implying Pyongyang is aiming to hide plans to continue its nuclear program from the US, having made contrary, if ambiguous, commitments to Washington. USA intelligence agencies became aware of the nuclear facility in 2010.

He said Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will likely discuss that proposal with the North Koreans soon.

"There is absolutely unequivocal evidence that they are trying to deceive the US", the official said, according to NBC.

The facility makes solid-fuel, ballistic missiles-which would be able to strike USA military installations in Asia with a nuclear weapon with little warning-as well as re-entry vehicles for warheads that Pyongyang might use on longer-range missiles able to hit the continental U.S. "Think of this. What did I do, really, when you think of it?"

Bolton said today the US has a plan that would lead to the dismantling of North Korea's nuclear weapons and ballistic missile programs in a year.

The assessment stands in stark contrast to President Donald Trump's exuberant comments following the summit, when he declared on Twitter that "there is no longer a nuclear threat" from North Korea. "And it is to North Korea's advantage to dismantle very quickly".

Asked about Trump's claim that the North Korea threat had been eliminated, Pompeo said Trump had meant to say only that the threat had been reduced.

Although US intelligence officials have stated unequivocally that Russian agents sought to influence the 2016 presidential election, Trump has continued to cast doubt on those conclusions.

The US side was "working to see whether they can prepare for high-level talks between Secretary Pompeo and Kim Jong Un and others in Pyongyang that would be a specific denuclearization road map, or at least significant dismantlement steps that could fill in a road map", he said.

"I do trust him", Trump told ABC News of Kim in the hours after the Singapore summit, adding that the North Korean leader will be "de-nuking the whole place".

Another of Trump's fellow Republicans in the US Senate, Lindsey Graham, echoed the need for skepticism.

Pompeo has already visited Pyongyang twice since April to meet with Kim - the first time when he was still director of the Central Intelligence Agency - and there are discussions about a possible third trip to North Korea late next week but such a visit has not yet been confirmed.
