The 35-year-old shotstopper becomes the third signing of the summer following the arrivals of Fred and Diogo Dalot.

And United have been on the lookout for a suitable third-choice to complement David de Gea and Sergio Romero after deciding to give Pereira the opportunity to play games elsewhere.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign the 35-year-old goalkeeper from the relegated Premier League side this summer. The Portuguese goalkeeper is also eyeing a loan move this summer.

"Moving to Manchester United has been a dream of mine for as long as I can remember", he told ManUtd.com.

Considered by many the best keeper in the world, the 27-year-old performed fantastically for his club last season, leading the Premier League in clean sheets (18).

Grant will add experience to the goalkeeping department and, potentially, allow the likes of Joel Pereira and Kieran O'Hara go out on loan to gain regular football at senior level.

The former Chelsea and Real Madrid coach was said to be impressed with Lee Grant's performances last season with Stoke City even though the club eventually lost their Premier League status.

Argentina worldwide Sergio Romero is De Gea's understudy, while Joel Perreira is now third-choice under the Portuguese head coach.

"Lee Grant is close to a move to Man United".

Liverpool have also been linked with the 26-year-old who has previously had spells with Bayern Munich and Inter Milan as he is available for just £12m and has shone at this summer's World Cup, scoring a late victor in Switzerland's 2-1 win over Serbia in the group stage.
