Democratic Senators Issue Last-Minute Warnings About Trump's Supreme Court Pick

After endorsing Trump choice Neil Gorsuch a year ago, Cashman is at it again, this time backing Brett Kavanaugh. For example, on the campaign trail, Trump promised his base that if he was elected he would appoint justices who would overturn Roe v. Wade. Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia and Doug Jones of Alabama. "I support President Trump's nominee, and I hope the Senate will move expeditiously to confirm Judge Kavanaugh, a high quality and uniquely qualified nominee".

For weeks, JCN has been running a different advertisement in an attempt to cut through Democrat fearmongering.

That is one reason many Democrats are demanding an all-out battle to block Trump's nominee. Trump told reporters on Sunday that he is "very close to making a decision" and all four people on the list are "excellent".

The White House reassigned key communications staff last week to focus exclusively on the looming Supreme Court fight.

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said opponents were using "40-year-old scare tactics" over abortion and other issues but they "will not stop us from doing the right thing".

Hardiman has a personal connection to the president, having served with Trump's sister on the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Philadelphia.

Republicans and Democrats are at odds over Kavanaugh and with the Senate closely divided, his path to confirmation is treacherous. The full Senate must approve Kavanaugh's nomination before he can replace Justice Anthony Kennedy, who announced his retirement at the end of June. He graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1987, and received his Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1990. The group Fix the Court, which advocates for Supreme Court transparency and accountability, sued the National Archives and Records Administration and the Justice Department on Tuesday over outstanding requests under the Freedom of Information Act related to Kavanaugh's time working under the former independent counsel Ken Starr, who was investigating the Clinton White House. While certainly conservative, Judge Kavanaugh is well within the mainstream of American legal thought and theory. There is a small contingent of Democrats from states that Trump won in 2016 who face narrow paths to reelection this fall.

Future Republican presidents should be expected to continue this transparent approach, including by producing an up-front list of potential nominees, and Democrats should create their own version of it on the other side.

Leaving McConnell's office, Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn, a Texas Republican, said no decisions had been made about requesting documents from the White House.

Focusing on progressive outcomes, failing to even consider the role of the Constitution or its meaning in judicial decisions, Schumer smeared Kavanaugh as a "hard-right" judge.

Last year, I was proud to appoint Justice Kennedy's former law clerk, Neil Gorsuch, to the Supreme Court. Kavanaugh would be the second appointment under Trump, further cementing a conservative-leaning Supreme Court.

"The goal of the letter is to talk about Brett as a person", Bidwill said, according to a report on the Cardinals' website.

But his supporters note his experience and a wide range of legal opinions.
