Some Samsung users say their phones randomly sent photos to contacts

A glitch in the latest version of the Samsung Messages texting app that comes pre-installed on all Samsung phones is sending random pictures to users' contacts.

That's because posters to Reddit and the Samsung forums say Samsung Messages is malfunctioning.

In another potentially embarrassing case, a Samsung Note 8 user reported that his scheduled text messages had been sent to the wrong recipients.

One user wrote on Reddit that his Galaxy S9+ send his entire photo gallery to his girlfriend, while he was sleeping at night. Users only find out the photos have been sent when they're asked about it. Samsung has said it's now looking into the problem. How and when that happens, is still unclear, but it is not limited to a specific carrier, as customers of both T-Mobile and AT&T have experienced this new "feature".

Another user wrote on the Samsung forum that the messaging app had become very buggy on the T-Mobile network after a recent update.

Samsung has confirmed that it is aware of the reports, and a spokesperson said in a statement that the company is looking into whether there's root cause.

This bug doesn't seem to be affecting users outside the United States so it's quite likely that it does have something to do with RCS but we won't know that for sure until Samsung gets back to us with more information after looking into the matter. However, T-Mobile told Gizmodo that the whole thing is "not a T-Mobile issue". Until then, there are two easy fixes for the concerned users: 1.

There are now two fixes if you are anxious about the issue affecting your device.

Specifically, the photos were sent over Samsung's stock text messaging app.

In the meantime, users can switch to another text messaging app, such as Google's Android Messages, or disable access to phone storage for the Samsung Messages app.
