British Prime Minister Theresa May named Jeremy Hunt to the job of foreign secretary, after the resignation of Boris Johnson on Monday.

And more importantly, where does it leave the Brexit negotiations?

There was concern on Monday night that the plan's delivery to the European Union would be delayed after the Brexit secretary Mr Davis and foreign secretary Mr Johnson resigned.

Once the poll was won, the gang evolved into the ERG, and its then leader, Steve Baker, is now back among the monkeys on the backbenches after resigning as a junior Brexit minister.

He is replaced at Health and Social Care by Culture Secretary Matt Hancock, who will in turn be succeeded by Attorney General Jeremy Wright.

"She knew this because I had written to her earlier in the week".

In a letter on Monday, Mr Johnson said the prime minister was leading the United Kingdom into a "semi-Brexit" with the "status of a colony".

In response, May said she was looking forward to meeting Trump when he arrives on Thursday: "We'll be talking positively about how we can continue to work together in our special relationship".

"Since I can not in all conscience champion these proposals, I have sadly concluded that I must go".

She added that she was "sorry, and a little surprised" at his resignation after the discussions in Chequers.

Mr Johnson's exit was announced by Downing Street moments before Mrs May faced the House of Commons to set out details of her plans.

The ex-Foreign Secretary left the foreign secretary's official residence at Carlton Gardens, central London, late in the evening, accompanied by his wife Marina Wheeler, and without speaking to waiting reporters.

But leading pro-Brexit lawmaker Jacob Rees-Mogg said he did not think she would face a leadership challenge.

Each future Conservative leader must be able to perform their own party balancing act, and the few ambitious enough to seek the opportunity are unable to do so.

Under Conservative Party rules, a confidence vote in a leader can be triggered if 48 lawmakers from May's Conservative Party request one.

He feels so strongly that he has already written - and openly published - a letter of no confidence in Theresa May and sent it to the 1922 Committee chair, Sir Graham Brady.

Mr Johnson appeared to laugh when the caller said he was a holding a meeting with the Russian president and that he "hoped he will not poison me with novichok".

Senior backbencher Bernard Jenkin said there had been a "massive haemorrhage of trust" in Mrs May.

Two years after Britain voted 52 percent to 48 percent to leave the European Union, May is trying to find a middle way between two starkly differing views -within her party and the country - of the UK's relationship with Europe.

The slew of resignations could possibly point to members of Parliament demanding a vote of no confidence in May, even though her team is confident that their Brexit plan would pass if it gets put to a vote.

He was widely reported to have told the Chequers meeting on Friday that putting a positive gloss on Mrs May's Brexit package would be like "polishing a turd", though he later joined other ministers in signing up to the package.

In his letter of resignation, he described her readiness to accept a "common rulebook" with the European Union in trade on goods and her proposal of "impractical and undeliverable customs arrangements" as being like "sending our vanguard into battle with the white flags fluttering above them". He said "the Brexit dream is dying, suffocated by needless self doubt".

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn said Mrs May should make way for a Labour administration if her Government can not get its act together quickly.
