Will Trump press Putin on election meddling denials?

The status of Crimea "cannot" and "will never" be discussed during worldwide negotiations, a spokesperson for the Kremlin said on Monday. While sanctions against Russian Federation and the recognition of the annexed Peninsula of Crimea will not be discussed, said the Advisor to the President for national security John Bolton.

But the Trump administration, by contrast, has occasionally punched Putin.

Lastly, senior Trump administration officials, but not the president himself, have accused Russian Federation of violating the Intermediate-Range Nuclear Forces Treaty, which bars deployment of missiles with ranges between 500 and 5,500 kilometers.

United States intelligence agencies have alleged that Russian hackers had tried to help Trump win the White House, something Russia has flatly denied.

"As reported by CNN, trump believes that he can cut a deal with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the so-called closed areas in the South-Western part of Syria, allowing the U.S. to withdraw as soon as possible", - stated in the material.

"I think the problem for any European leader is (that) you just don't know what the response is going to be when you need America's help", he said.

It's the first official summit between the two powers, though they've met twice before on the sidelines of global gatherings. "We don't want anybody tampering with elections".

When asked what Trump wants from the upcoming meeting with Putin, Bolton said "the president has very much in mind, he wants to understand the Russian position and perhaps more importantly he wants Vladimir Putin to understand our positions".

Asked by reporters whether he was considering - as has been reported - dropping Washington's opposition to the 2014 land grab, Trump said: "We're going to have to see". We'll be talking about peace.

Bolton said he discussed concerns about Russian meddling in the United States elections with Putin during his visit to Moscow on Wednesday, citing activities targeting congressional elections coming up in November as well as the 2016 presidential contest. While the official US policy is that the territory belongs to Ukraine, Trump has suggested he may take a different stance. "The one thing I'd say is Trump's not doing anything to counter those forces; he is accelerating them", he said.

Earlier in June, Bolton visited Moscow to prepare for the meeting, trump and Putin. Tillerson said Trump had pressed Putin on the matter. "That's all Putin needs for a successful meeting".

The meeting will be closely watched by US allies in Europe and critics of the Kremlin back in America.

The summit is to be held four days after a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation meeting in Brussels, Belgium, where Trump will meet the leaders of the U.S. military allies.

On Monday, leading foreign-policy Democrats urged Trump in a letter to hold Putin accountable for Russia's destabilization efforts, including election meddling, support for the Syrian regime and the annexation of Crimea.
