The smoke from the Yolo fires has drifted toward San Francisco. The County Fire is only 3 percent contained, according to the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, and is continuing to grow.

Cal Fire says the County Fire near the town of Guinda is now threatening some homes north of Highway 128 in Yolo County, but is not threatening residences within the city of Winters.

Slightly cooler temperatures were forecast later Monday but gusty winds that could spread the blaze also were expected, Lauderbale said.

"Given the conditions we were under, it was explosive in terms of its growth and spread", he said of the County Fire. There have been no reports of injuries or loss of structures. Only 2 percent of those fires have been contained. Agencies from the Bay Area and from as far away as San Diego, Modoc and Mendocino counties have sent firefighters to the area, Anthony said. An evacuation advisory is in place for the area south of Highway 20 to Morgan Valley Rd. and from Sky High Ridge Rd.to the Lake County line.

An evacuation center has been established at Rumsey Grange Hall.

The sheriff's office announced on Twitter that the Sugarloaf Fire is burning in Grand County but not in the area near Nederland that is also called Sugarloaf.

"In a drought-stricken area, once you get a spark, it is off to the races", he said.

"These fires are extremely aggressive and extremely fast moving", McLean said.

The County Fire continues to grow, reaching 32,500 acres Sunday evening.

All evacuations orders have been rescinded. "So we don't want to see it go up in flames". While the Lake County fires are at 73% containment, the fires near Guinda in Yolo County are relatively new.

Jesper Joergensen, 52, initially said he had started a fire to burn trash but then said he had been grilling in a permanent fire pit the day before the blaze began, according to a court document.

Forecasters say the threat of wildfires will diminish in the U.S. Southwest this month but increase in the Northwest and along much of the California coast.

The smoky haze settling on areas to the south and west was rattling nerves near wine country communities that were devastated by deadly wildfires late previous year.
