Zsa Zsa, the 'World's Ugliest Dog,' dies

The nine-year-old canine died in her sleep Tuesday morning, owner Megan Brainard of Anoka, Minnesota told U.S. media.

United States news outlet Today reports the unfortunate - but loveable - pooch died overnight, New Zealand time, at her home in Minnesota with owner Megan Brainard present until the end. He says she appeared fine the day before, so it was a shock.

After earning the mantle of "World's Ugliest Dog" just last month, English Bulldog Zsa Zsa died Tuesday morning.

The nine-year-old spent her final weeks travelling and making television appearances.

Brainard, who lives in Anoka, told TODAY that she held a small farewell ceremony for Zsa Zsa with her husband and their 15-month-old daughter, Mareslie. "She's been staying over at my dad's house", Brainard said in the report. Zsa Zsa family said she died in her sleep in Minnesota. She was one of 14 candidates and won over pets who had impressive qualifications, including some that had been featured in films, TV shows, music videos - and one who had it's own IMDB page! She called Zsa Zsa's passing "devastating".

English bulldogs typically live for about 9 years - so Zsa Zsa had a pretty good run.

"From the moment we saw her attractive face, we knew we would be her forever home", Brainard said after her pet won the contest at the Sonoma-Marin County Fair.

'We were all saying our goodbyes and Mareslie went right over and gave her a kiss.
