He said, "I have come to Pakistan on my friend's [Imran] invitation".

Former Indian cricketer and Tourism, Cultural Affairs, and Museums Minister in the Punjab state government Navjot Singh Sidhu travelled to Pakistan today. It garnered nearly 17 million votes, trouncing the Pakistan Muslim League, the incumbent governing party of jailed former prime minister Nawaz Sharif, which finished second with just under 13 million ballots.

Pakistan's parliament has elected Khan to lead the government.

He is in the neighbouring country as a guest for the swearing-in ceremony of Imran Khan who will take oath as the next Prime Minister of the country on August 18.

Votes secured by Imran Khan are the same as were polled by the party candidate for election of the Speaker. Khan's only challenger could be Shahbaz Sharif, but his Pakistan Muslim League party won only 92 seats in last month's elections.

Soon after being elected as the 22nd prime minister of the country, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan went to his chamber in the parliament and offered prayers of gratitude, ARY News reported.

For the cricket legend-turned-politician, his party's first place in a national election and becoming country's prime minister, is the culmination of a battle that started more than two decades ago. Former Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chief secretary Arbab Shahzad was also invited as a special guest, reports said.
